How We Press
All 7LAND oils are pressed in a wooden chekku (mara chekku) at our unit in Maniyampalayam, Tirupur. A wooden press turns slowly, so the seeds are crushed rather than heated, and the oil keeps its natural colour, aroma and taste without any refining.
Coconut oil
Made from naturally fallen, fully mature coconuts from our groves. The kernels are sun-dried into copra and pressed slowly in the chekku.
Groundnut oil
Made from farm-grown groundnuts. It has a natural nutty aroma and a high smoke point, which makes it the best choice for deep frying and everyday cooking.
Sesame (gingelly) oil
Made from handpicked, sun-dried sesame seeds grown on our farms in Erode, pressed at low temperature to keep the aroma of sesame.

Wood-pressed vs refined oil
Most supermarket oil is solvent-extracted and refined. Here is what changes when oil is pressed slowly in a wooden chekku instead.
| Point of comparison | 7LAND wood-pressed | Refined oil |
|---|---|---|
| Extraction | Slow wooden chekku press | High-speed expeller, then chemical solvent (usually hexane) |
| Heat | No external heating | Heated to high temperatures while refining |
| Processing | Settled and filtered only | Neutralised, bleached and deodorised |
| Aroma and colour | Natural aroma of the seed or coconut | Neutral smell, pale colour |
| Additives | None | May contain added antioxidants |
Questions about how we press
What is wood-pressed (mara chekku) oil?
Wood-pressed oil is oil extracted by slowly crushing seeds or dried coconut in a wooden press, called a chekku in Tamil or ghani in Hindi. It is not treated with chemical solvents or refined, so it keeps the natural aroma, colour and taste of the seed.
Is wood-pressed oil the same as cold-pressed oil?
Both methods avoid external heating. "Wood-pressed" specifically means the press is made of wood, like a traditional chekku or ghani. "Cold-pressed" is a broader term that also covers steel expellers. 7LAND oils are pressed in a wooden chekku.
Why has my coconut oil turned solid or cloudy?
Pure coconut oil naturally turns solid in cool weather, usually below about 24°C. It is still perfectly usable. Keep the bottle in warm water for a few minutes and it will turn liquid again.
Start with a 500 ml bottle
Most families begin with coconut or groundnut oil in 500 ml, then move to 1 L or 2 L once the kitchen is converted.
